2019 Update
2019 sees a new model, the X Comp Carbon, in the Specialized Sirrus review. This bike features a SRAM NX 1x11 speed drivetrain. With its single front chainring and wide range cassette you get simple, intuitive gear shifting with a wide gear range. This bike also gets the Future Shock suspension cartridge for a smoother ride. The X Comp Carbon sits just below the Expert Carbon which replaces the X Comp at the top of the Specialized Sirrus range.

Overview
The Specialized Sirrus is a hybrid bike that fits perfectly in cityscapes. It perfectly blends speed and comfort, making sure you can beat the morning traffic, while keeping a relaxed and upright riding position. We review the whole Sirrus range of bikes, beginning at the entry-level Alloy models with V-brakes moving all the way to the carbon framed Pro Carbon model.
For commuting around the city, riding along canal paths, and even some forest tracks, the Specialized Sirrus is a versatile and approachable hybrid sports bike that’ll double as a fitness bike during winter. There’s a wide range of models to suit any budget, with alloy and carbon frames, V-brake and disc brake options, as well as women’s models. And new for 2018, the top models even feature Specialized’s Future Shock technology.
The 2018 Specialized Sirrus range features all-new frames for both their carbon and alloy models. Made lighter and more comfortable, the Sirrus range caters even more to urban cyclists who are looking for a versatile ride. Every frame gets both rack and fender mounts, with the disc models allowing for the Specialized-specific Plug + Play fenders.
The new FACT 9r carbon frames get flat mount disc mounts and 12mm through axles front and rear increasing strength and stiffness in the structure. They also get internal cable routing to keep things clean. The alloy models come in two different frame materials. The entry-level Sirrus alloy gets an A1 Premium alloy, while the other alloy models all receive the lighter A1 SL Premium frame. All Sirrus models feature the same Fitness Geometry, made to balance speed and comfort.
Specialized has adorned the Sirrus with their Future Shock technology, giving greater comfort on rough roads. It is a shock damper that sits below the stem and is housed inside the headtube. It helps to reduce harsh vibrations, decreasing fatigue in your hand and arms. This unique feature is found on the Expert and Pro Carbon.

With road derived drivetrains, the Sirrus range delivers easy gearing no matter where you ride
Specialized made sure that every Sirrus bike had plenty of gear range to not only speed around the city but also to get out into the country to enjoy the open roads. Througout the range you’ll see Shimano and microSHIFT components.
From the Sirrus Alloy to the Sirrus Alloy Disc you’ll find a triple chainring drivetrain with 7 or 8 speed cassettes. All the other models, from the Sport Alloy Disc all the way to the range-topping Pro Carbon get double chainring drivetrains. They all have road derived drivetrains with 9-10 speed cassettes, with the pro Carbon getting Shimano Ultegra components for superb shifting.
The Sirrus Alloy and V-Brake Womens both have V-brakes, keeping them in a more accessible price bracket, while the rest of the range gets disc brakes. These provide greater stopping power in both the dry and the wet. Disc brakes from Promax, Tektro and TRP can be found throughout, and are all hydraulic, which delivers better modulation and power.
Being a sports hybrid bike, the Specialized Sirrus has 700c sized wheels, most common on road bikes. These are fast rolling and maintain speed well. The V-brake models have double wall rims with a braking surface on the rims, which the Sirrus models with disc brakes gets disc-specific wheels. These have a wider internal width, giving the tyres a greater platform, increasing stability.
The Specialized tyres come in either 30c or 32c sizes. From the Sirrus Alloy to the Sirrus Sport Alloy Disc, you get Nimbus Reflect 32c tyres, which feature Flak Jacket protection to help avoid punctures. From the Sirrus Elite Alloy all the way to the range-topping Pro Carbon, Specialized Espoir Sport Reflect tyres in 30c size are found. The Nimbus tyres lean more towards comfort, while the Espoir are faster rolling. Both tyres get reflective strips on their sides to increase visibility of the roads.
