The Merida Speeder 500 strikes a smart balance between road bike speed and urban versatility. It’s the ideal choice for riders who want to cover ground quickly, but with a more upright, confidence-inspiring riding position. At the heart of the bike is a triple-butted 6066 aluminium frame, hydroformed for strength and lightness. It’s the same high-quality alloy Merida use on their road bikes, fine-tuned here for comfort and all-round performance. The geometry puts you in a slightly more upright position than a traditional road bike, improving visibility in traffic while still keeping the ride fast and agile.
Up front, the Speeder CF2 full carbon fork reduces road buzz and sharpens up handling, with a tapered steerer for extra front-end stiffness. The flat bar setup gives you more direct control, especially helpful when navigating busy roads or stop-start riding in town.
The SRAM Apex XPLR 1x12 drivetrain offers reliable, crisp shifting with a wide 11-44T cassette for tackling varied terrain. Paired with a single 42T chainring, it’s a low-fuss setup ideal for city riding and beyond. Stopping power is taken care of by Shimano MT200 hydraulic disc brakes, which provide strong, consistent braking in all weather conditions.
Wheels are Merida Comp SL tubeless-ready rims paired with Maxxis Detonator 32c Kevlar-bead tyres, offering a blend of speed and durability. With space for up to 35c tyres, or 32c with mudguards, you’ve got room to customise your setup for extra comfort or wet-weather protection.
Practical touches like internal cable routing, and mounts for mudguards, pannier rack and a kickstand, make the Speeder 500 a commuter-friendly option that doesn’t compromise on performance. The Merida Comp SL saddle, made from 25% recycled materials, adds a sustainability bonus to this well-rounded build.
