Been MTBing for 30 odd years and hadn't realised that park of feeling jaded and riding less was due to the fact that really pushing myself into the red wasn't even type 2 fun anymore. I understand the importance of suffering in cycling, and have always been sceptical of "cheating". This bike has taught me I can still push myself hard, ride with significant effort ( if I choose, which I often do) but that the effort can be more consistent, less peak cardiorespiratory stress and joint crunching effort. Turns out that is fun. Turns out the grimness and aching recovery was not motivating. This bike is no armchair, it has puts you in an attacking position and responds to being pushed. Reach feels bob on for me at just under 5'11" but there's not loads of leeway with the dropper post (plenty of room to move about the it is dropped though). It needs a mudguard and extension to stop mud collecting where it can feed into the pivots and chain. But a decent mudguard does stop that. Changed the front tyre to a trusty 2.5 Minion DHF, saddle and grips. Now feels like it is a super capable, great peddling bike that isn't noticeable heavy like full fat eMTB's can be and I have ridden for 4+ hours on a single charge with plenty of climbing so initial ( newbie ebiker) range anxiety is gone. Plus the distance I covered in those 4 hours and consistent effort mean I'm keeling over before the battery. Climbing is a hoot and the modifiable power options mean you can really enjoy technical and steep sections which I would never have previously managed. Getting through slop/filth is also surprisingly loads better. Descends like the really capable trail bike it is. Fox 36's are noticeably better than the 34's I've used previously. Charging and maintenance are easy. Very happy. Feels like being really fit again in that everything doesn't suddenly become easier, you just ride harder faster and longer and maybe the top 10-20% of suffering becomes optional. Service from Trees was, as ever, great.
