Scott Sub Speed 2015
Super stylish hybrid sports bike
If you’re after a bike for short to medium commutes, and generally hopping around town then the Scott Sub Speed is ideal. The pinched in wheel span provides great agility for navigating potholes, sidewalks and tired pedestrians walking bleary-eyed across the road.
Sub stands for ‘Speed Utility Bike’, and that’s exactly what this is. It rides smooth and needs little care and attention to keep it going - especially the belt driven Speed 10. The range varies in colour from stylish red to a subtle grey. With the whole range falling just short of £900, every bike you see here is available through a Cycle to Work scheme for large tax savings - making a good value bike even better.

Features
Swiss efficiency in an urban machine
Starting from as little as £449 Scott have created a solid and agile frame for daily use, clad with good quality components. All the bikes feature the same 6061 aluminium alloy frame which has been double butted to shave extra weight - allowing you to nip through traffic with ease.
Speeds range from 24 to 27 (except the 8 speed Sub Speed 10) controlled by Shimano mech’s allowing you to tackle a range of situations, and potentially some rapid commuting through urban streets. Hydraulic disc brakes on all models except the Sub Speed 40 are a definite bonus. Disc brakes are more powerful than standard rim brakes and perform consistently in all weather conditions - so you can be sure they’ll stop you in any situation.
A standout model from the range has to be the super simple Sub Speed 10 with its lush green livery. This bike uses a chain belt, rather than a standard chain, which is extremely smooth and won’t wear out as quickly - ideal for daily commuters. Chain belts require far less maintenance and the lack of a rear derailleur creates an slick aesthetic. Mudguards are a definite bonus so you don’t arrive at work wet and dirty.

Rider
All commuters
The Scott Sub Speed is a brilliant commuter bike for those wanting an easy to maintain, durable hybrid bike. It’s not sluggish, and it’s not the fastest hybrid out there, but it’s comfortable and goes fast when you put the pedal down. As a constant companion for daily use, we recommend it highly.
Depending on the size of your budget definitely working up the range is a good idea. The Speed 20 comes with a Shimano Alivio / Deore drivetrain and upgraded rims which will make a difference to your ride experience.
