A helmet is probably the most important cycling accessory that you can buy for your child. It is important that you get one that is comfortable and fits them properly as well as looking cool, so they want to wear it. All our kids and junior helmets meet or exceed UK & EU safety standards.
Fit
Bike helmets are sized by the circumference of the head. The fit is adjustable, so you just need to be sure that you child’s head size fits within the range stated in the Size Button and/or in the Size Chart. The chin straps are adjustable too and should be tight enough so you can only fit 2 fingers between the strap and you child’s face.
How to Measure your Child's Head
To find the circumference of your child's head, place a tape measure in the centre of their forehead, wrap it around above their ears and around the back of their head. Cycling helmets are made to fit a range of sizes. You child’s head size should fit within the range shown for the helmet you are interested in.
Types of Kids Helmet
Kids and especially junior helmets are like mini versions of adult helmets and are available in different styles.
MTB Helmets
Mountain bike helmets have a peak to shield the eyes from glare and are a great choice for a kids’ helmet as the riding position on most kids’ bikes is upright like a mountain bike. This style of helmet is also well vented so is good for warm summer cycling.
Road Helmets
Road bike helmets have lots of vents but don’t have a peak as they are designed for a more tucked riding position where a peak would obscure forward vision. These helmets tend to be the lightest and most well vented.
BMX/Skate Helmets
BMX/Skate have a rounded shape with minimal venting. These helmets are tough and hard wearing with a street friendly styling that many kids prefer. These helmets tend to be heavier and hotter than those with more venting so they are not the best for long cycle rides in the sun.
