The Scott Scale is an XC and trail-specific hardtail mountain bike built for speed and ready for action. On a scale of 1 to 10, we give the Scale top marks for components and design, which would explain why it was 2012 World Champion Nino Schurter’s weapon of choice. The aggressive geometry is ideal for climbing and the maximum efficiency and minimal weight takes care of the descents. The JR versions are perfect for younger riders and the Contessa models are women-specific.

Scale model
All models feature remote lockout to fix the fork in position when climbing, conserving energy along with Pressfit bottom brackets, which have longer lasting, bigger diameter bearings for stiffer bottom bracket shells - resulting in better power transfer. Frames are either lightweight carbon or quality aluminium and feature tapered headtubes for stiffness. Front suspension is courtesy of RockShox or Fox forks (except the 970/770 models) and 100mm suspension gives better traction.

The Scott Scale covers the whole spectrum of trail enthusiasts, from beginner to WC standard XC racer. The basic models will happily tackle a commute as well as a little off-road, with the top of the range versions ready to take their place on the starting lines of marathon and endurance events. Whatever your level, you’ll have a highly spec’d and ready to race machine for all day riding.

Race Bred
What? Light frames and aggressive geometry
Why? Scott’s Integrated Moulding Process (‘IMP’) fully optimises carbon fibre by creating multiple tubes in a single step, giving a lighter frame structure. A longer top tube gives a slightly more stretched out position for better climbing.
Larger wheelsizes
What? 27.5”/650b or 29er
Why? Take your pick - more stable and faster rolling 29ers or 27.5”/650b wheels which roll better than smaller 26” wheels, but are more agile than 29ers and great for accelerating.
Quality components
What? Shimano/SRAM groupsets
Why? Both brands have produced top quality components for decades, from the durable Shimano Deore groupset on the 970 model to the top of the range SRAM XX1 on the 900/700.
