Specialized Epic Comp Carbon 29er Mountain Bike 2018 - XC Full Suspension MTB

Full XC race performance without breaking the bank. The Specialized Epic Comp Carbon is a 29er mountain bike that features cutting edge suspension technology for fast and efficient riding on today’s technical cross-country tracks.
Completely redesigned from the ground up the new Epic is lighter, smarter and faster than ever. The first full suspension bike to win a World Cup XC race, the Epic was ahead of its time when first released. As cross-country race courses have become more technical with steep sections, jumps and rock gardens the advantages the Epic offers have become increasingly relevant.
The FACT 11m carbon frame features revised geometry which offers improved performance on technical terrain. The reach is longer and the head tube angle is slightly slacker which makes the bike much more stable at speed. To keep the handling nimble in the tight corners and switchbacks, the fork features a custom 42mm offset that works with the slacker head angle to offer the ideal all round XC race performance.
Over 500 grams lighter than the previous model, the new Epic frame features a complex carbon layup that offers improved front end stiffness for improved ride quality and control. Rider-First Engineered™, the frame tubes are all size specific. This means that you get the same great handling characteristics whichever size you ride. Boost hub spacing further improves handling by allowing for a stiffer wheel build.
At the heart of the Epic’s performance is the redesigned Brain technology that works with the rear suspension to keep the rear end supple over the rough stuff but stiff on smooth ground. This means that you get all the performance advantages of rear suspension without losing pedalling efficiency. Brain 2.0 is now closer to the rear axle so it is now in the most sensitive spot which, with the redesigned internals, offers seamless reactions to bump forces as well as more consistent damping performance. The hose that connects the Brian to the RockShox shock is integrated into the suspension links which offers an improved oil path as well as offering a cleaner, sleeker design.
Up front the RockShox Reba RL fork offers 100mm of suspension travel with adjustable compression and rebound damping adjustment so you can set the fork up to offer the ideal performance on every track. Giving you a wide range of gears without the hassle of a front derailleur, the SRAM GX 1x11 speed drivetrain is ideal for XC racing as well as trail riding. The 30t chainring will make getting up those very steep climbs a little easier.
Lightweight, tough and tubeless ready the Roval Control 29” wheels are Shod with Fast Track GRIPTON tyres so the Epic is ready to race straight out of the box. SRAM Level TL hydraulic disc brakes give you all the stopping power you need whatever the track conditions.

* Mountain bikes are sized differently to road bikes. Typically, they are sized in inches as the first MTBs were produced in the USA. European brands like Lapierre and Haibike like to use centimetres for all their bikes. The measurements of their mountain bikes doesn’t match their road bikes but are like a simple conversion from the inches measurement. This is why we have included cm measurements in brackets for the Mountain bike column.
Read our bike size guide for more information on sizing.
