Frame & Suspension

The frame itself is a blend of carbon composite and alloy. The front triangle is carbon composite which is ultra light, strong and stiff. The rear triangle is alloy which is also strong and stiff. The ride is responsive, controlled and fun.

For 2015 the frame geometry has been redesigned to fit the new 27.5” wheel size. A 68 degree head angle is more relaxed than you’d expect to find on an XC bike - but it is by no means slack. A 73.5 degree seat angle is perfect for flying up the climbs while staying seated.

In real terms this makes the X-Control 527 best for taking on singletrack and long distance XC routes. It really is a solid climber that can bomb down smooth man made trails with ease.

The Rockshox Reba RL 120mm fork is reliable and consistent. Lockout helps you to climb more efficiently by fixing the fork in place to stop bobbing. The Solo Air fork can also be quickly adjusted for different rider weights.

At the rear a Fox Float CTD rear shock with 100mm travel comes with quality rebound damping. The compression damping comes with three settings, climb, trail and descend. These can be adjusted on the fly to make the 527 even more efficient.

The FPS2 rear shock is a virtual pivot point as the rear wheel is linked to the frame with two linkages, and the rear wheel doesn’t move in a circular path in the way a single pivot does. Instead, the rear wheel path is perpendicular to the chain line.

Suspension acts independently from pedalling. In other words there is no pedal kickback. You can keep cranking away in the saddle. This is active suspension that tracks the ground impressively well. You can conserve energy to go for longer, more epic rides.

The suspension remains active under braking and doesn’t stiffen up. Other frame features include a tapered head tube for precision cornering, and a super stiff 12mm bolt through axle.

Components

Shimano’s 2x10 XT drivetrain is a performance system, designed for getting the most out of your riding. Slick shifting, a wide range of gears and simple gear selection makes the 527 more enjoyable and efficient to ride.

Even the hydraulic disc brakes are high-end Shimano XT. 180mm front and 160mm rear rotors give you all the stopping power you’re going to need when bombing down a trail. These brakes consistently perform, in all weather conditions and have great modulation.

DT Swiss rims on formula hubs make for a strong and lightweight wheelset to get you spinning fast.
