Frame & Fork

With the Defy Advanced you’re getting a quality composite frame with high performance grade raw carbon fibres, chosen for their high stiffness to weight ratio. The resin uses vibration damping particles to reduce fatigue on long-distance epics.

Giant’s engineers use a modified monocoque construction where the front triangle is built as a single piece, then joined to the rear stays. This removes the need for the outermost composite sheet, shaving extra weight off the frame. Ride quality, strength and stiffness is not affected.

Key to the ride feel is the proven geometry with a taller head tube and shorter top tube that puts you into a more upright riding position. All Defy models share the same geometry.

Keeping you in the saddle for longer are compliance enhancing features such as ultra thin and flattened stays, These are vertically compliant to absorb road buzz. A D-Fuse SL seatpost offers more fore/aft movement than traditional round profile for added comfort. Lateral and torsional stiffness are maintained for efficient power transfer and precise handling.

Improving stiffness upfront is a full composite fork with OverDrive 2 steerer that greatly improves steering precision. An oversized PowerCore bottom bracket improves lateral stiffness so more of your power goes straight through to the wheels.

Components

Equipped is a performance level Shimano Ultegra 11 speed groupset with a close ratio cassette and Ultegra compact chainset. Performance is crisp and extremely reliable in a lightweight package. This is just one step down from top level Dura Ace.

Shimano hydraulic disc brakes are power and reliable in all weather conditions. These brakes also have great modulation so you can manage your speed with precision.

The Defy rolls on lightweight Giant SL 1 disc specific wheels which are durable for longevity. The Pro comes with Giant’s chainstay integrated wireless data transmitter - RideSense. This removable transmitter sends wheel speed and cadence information directly to any ANT+ compatible computer.
