Giant Avail Advanced 3 Womens 2015 - Road Bike

The Giant Avail Advanced 3 is a high quality women’s all-rounder road bike, ideally suited to endurance riding, but versatile for any riding scenario. Getting a carbon frame and fork at this price, matched with good spec and a great ride feel is pretty rare.

A female only team designed and built the Avail Advanced 3 (actually all the Giant/Liv Avail models). Think of the Giant Defy, but with a female friendly spec, a shorter top tube and modified tube shapes - for smaller and lighter riders. Disc specific for 2015.

Frame & Fork

Each Giant Avail Advanced (including the Advanced 1 & Pro models) comes with the same Advanced Grade Composite frame. A high performance T-700 raw carbon fibre is used which is very light, stiff and compliant built using a monocoque construction.

The carbon layup is tuned specifically for women riders and there are compliance features built into the seatstays and seat tube for comfort over distance. Carbon composite has natural road buzz dampening qualities so less shock is transferred through the frame into your contact points.

The composite fork up-front improves lateral rigidity whilst soaking up vibrations minimising discomfort through your hands. When matched to an OverDrive tapered steerer, you can corner in confidence and with precision.

Stiffness has been improved in the bottom bracket area thanks to the oversized PowerCore BB. This larger platform is stiffer for increased pedalling efficiency. You can explode out of the corners. It’s also easier to maintain a rapid speed.

Components

The big news for 2015 is that all carbon composite Giant/Liv Avail models are disc specific. Disc brakes offer better feel, power and performance in all conditions compared to traditional braking systems.

TRP Spyre mechanical disc brakes with 160mm rotors give you all the power you’re going to need. Disc brakes are welcome for riding in urban areas where you may need consistent braking performance everytime.

Clad to the Avail Advanced 3 is a 20 speed (2x10) Shimano Tiagra drivetrain. This is a capable setup, is lightweight has great feel and is reliable. The 12-30 cassette has less range than the Avail 3 & 5 models but a much closer spacing between the gears. Smoother steps make it easier to find the right gear to ride with optimal cadence.

Comfort is added by the addition of the D-Fuse composite seatpost. This seatpost is designed with a certain level of deflection to minimise vibration travelling through the saddle.

The Avail Advanced 3 comes spec’d with women’s specific features. A shorter reach to the brake levers and a narrower profile handlebar means you feel less stretched out. Also equipped is a women’s saddle that’s designed to fit the female form.
