Cannondale CaadX 105 2016 - Cyclocross Bike

The Cannondale CaadX 105 is a very capable cyclocross race bike, yet versatile enough to take on the morning commute and tough winter training. It’s this versatility that makes the CaadX so popular.

Frame & Fork

You get the same frame as the next level up CaadX Ultegra, and the same fork. 6061 aluminium alloy is strong, light and stiff. Cannondale have built in comfort features in the stays and fork.

The CaadX 105 has a relaxed race geometry with a slightly taller head tube and slacker head angle than the Cyclocross specific Super X. The taller head tube puts you into a more upright and comfortable riding position while the slacker head angle improves handling.

One comfort feature are the Save Stays (seat and chainstays) which have a flattened shape and engineered with refined butting. This gives greater vertical compliance with lateral rigidity for efficient power transfer and confident handling.

Smooth welds are a signature Cannondale feature. A double pass smooth weld technique is used to eliminate weak points that are found on traditional welds.

Taper butted tubes reduce frame weight whilst improving overall strength. Excess material is shaved away from low stress areas to lower weight and improve speed. Smooth transitions provided by taper butting reduces internal stresses more so than by traditional butting.

The CaadX also comes with a BB30 bottom bracket which is super stiff to help with power transfer through the pedals. Rack and fender mounts show the cyclocross as a capable commuter and year round riding machine.

Up-front you get a carbon bladed fork which is able to absorb road vibrations from travelling up through the handlebar. It also increases steering precision.

Components

You get a 2x11 speed Shimano 105 drivetrain. This performance setup has a wider range than the next level down Tiagra, but with the same close ratio so you can optimise your cadence easily. The cables are also neatly tucked under the bar tape for a clutter free cockpit.

Showing its cyclocross credentials, the CaadX 105 comes with an FSA Gossamer Cross crankset made to work with the super stiff BB30. Maddux CX rims on Formula CX hubs are also cyclocross specific components for hard racing.
