Giant Defy 1 Disc 2016 - Road Bike

The Giant Defy 1 Disc is a lightweight, nimble and comfortable endurance road bike for riding long miles on less than perfect roads. Race, train, explore, commute, you can do it all on the Defy.

The Defy is a winner of the 2015 Paris-Roubaix and Milan-San Remo One Day Classic races with Giant Alpecin rider John Degenkolb.

Frame & Fork

The Defy 1 Disc is built around an Aluxx SL aluminium frame which is light, stiff and strong for all round road performance.

To shave extra weight, unnecessary  material from within the tube walls are removed through a process called butting. With such a light frame you get explosive acceleration through the corners and can fly up the climbs with ease.

Endurance road geometry with a slightly more upright riding position (taller head tube and shorter top tube) that you find on a pure road bike reduces fatigue on long rides. All models feature the same geometry.

An oversized PowerCore bottom bracket improves lateral stiffness so more of your power goes straight through to the wheels.

Upfront you get a carbon bladed fork. Carbon composite is very light and stiff for improving steering precision - ideal on a sportive ride. Increasing front-end stiffness is the OverDrive tapered steerer.

Components

Equipped is the Shimano 105 11 speed drivetrain with a wide range cassette and compact cranks. The wide range with small gaps between gears makes it easier to find the right option for any climb and to match your cadence.

The key talking point with the 1 Disc are those mechanical disc brakes. Disc brakes are more powerful than rim options and consistently perform in all weather conditions - this makes the Defy a great winter training steed.

Giant excellent disc specific P-R2 wheels are quick to speed and durable. Sealed hub bearings are designed for longevity, essential for an endurance road bike. Butted Sapim race spokes shave extra grams off the total weight too.

The D-Fuse composite seatpost has a ‘D’ profile giving you more compliance for a comfortable ride - ideal for the Paris-Roubaix cobbles.
